I personally caught several plaice the best of which went 6 1/3 pounds the best this year and the cod and conger seemed prolific. With 5 tons of cod being caught (and thrown back) by inshore fisher men we were bound to catch a few and we did on Sunday with 11 being caught on lug and squid all just a few miles out. The biggest was lost by amanda and I estimate it nearly 20 lb but she did make amends and caught another at 11 lbs. The cod season is in full swing now. One chap had four on four cod feathers last weekend and cogratulations to Paul Holman for capturing the best on of the summer tipping the scale at 18 pounds
We are also getting some superb  bream of the midchannel wrecks but the plaice continmue to elude us. ThE pictures show a nice crab which gave quite a struggle and Pauls cod in the foreground

At last the cod are showing up in numbers on our favourite inshore mark. We caught 19 in two hours and a surprise ling on feathes! The pictures shows Darrens party from amec engineering dispalying their catch. Lots of bin liners needed!

We have had a good hit of pollock and bass last week on a wrecking trip the best bass was 71/2 lbs and the best pollock went to 12lbs.  We also had a few cod the best went to  131/2 lbs. This week we went on Beachy Head ledge and were rewarded with 15 bass on one day and 12 on another. These wern’t very big but all were sizeable and I am sure made a few tasty meals. However, The cod are not in the numbers as was the case this last time year neither are the plaice but it can only get better. Makerel are at last in abundance which is a very good sign. Thank heavens for a settled spell of good weather ,with no May rot. I am looking forward to every trip now!

Plaice and cod a sample from th last catch

 

The plaice fishing has now arrived with the best at 2 3/4 pound so far. The good news is that there are still nice cod to be had in shallow water close to the tower. The bassing season has also started with a vengeance and it can only get better as the water clears and the May rot disapears. The  bad news is that  makerel are running late this year and so are the cod in deep water and on the wrecks. However, I love my plaice fishing so I for one am happy.

dsc008502In nice weather we headed up to Beachy Head ofshore reefs to try for bass but instead we got cod up to 7 lbs which was totally unexpected. We also hit a few makerel and some channel whiting. Well done to Kit (2nd left) wo won the best fish of the day prize (£24) but also got a second cod later on. We also tried for spurdogs half way through the day but only got huss. At last the inshore summer fishing has arrived.
